Pension fund management workshop held in St Lucia

CASTRIES, St Lucia -- The Conference Room of the St Lucian Hotel was packed to capacity for the CMMB & First Citizens Pension Fund Management Workshop held on 9th March, 2010.

The panel of presenters, all versed and experienced in the field of managing pension funds, were led by the General Manager of CMMB Limited, Jason Julien and Vangie Bhagoo - Senior Research Analyst, Nesha Debysingh - Pension Funds & Private Portfolios Manager, Sharmaine Francois - Business Development Manager St Lucia/OECS as well as  Christopher Sandy – General Manager First Citizens Trustee Services Ltd., and Marius St Rose – Chairman of The ECCU Pension Reform & Administration Commission.

Presentations covered in-depth understanding of pension plans and the different types of plans; the role of major stakeholders from pensioners to investment advisors as well as the impact and implications for these funds, from the global and regional economic downturn.

Detailed information was also provided on modern investment strategies and pension management process with special focus on the investment policy statement and asset allocation.

The afternoon session looked at recent global trends in pension Fund Management and highlighted issues such as a generally aging population and poverty among the elderly.

The next presentation gave an overview of CMMB’s Asset Management Services, which highlighted key CMMB achievements and expertise in the area of Pension Fund Management and the final presentation for the day gave an overview of the ECCU Pension Reform Commission, its origin, mandate, rationale, purpose and objectives.

Participants came from Barbados, St Kitts, Antigua and St Lucia. Discussions were extremely interactive and informative and participant feedback thus far, indicate high satisfaction with the content and delivery.
