ST GEORGE’S, Grenada -- Prime Minister, Tillman Thomas has once again raised the possibility of the removal of the VISA restriction on Grenadians travelling to Canada, with that country’s newly appointed High Commissioner to Grenada and the OECS, Ruth Archibald.
The Prime Minister raised the issue on Friday morning as the new High Commissioner presented her Letters of Introduction to him at his office.

“This is one of the issues we will like to encourage some movement on, given the close relationship between Canada and Grenada,” the Prime Minister told the Canadian diplomat.

He also confirmed that some measures were already taken to address the situation as directed by the Canadian government, following discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

The Grenadian leader also sought assistance from the Canadians for developing Grenada’s human resources through the granting of scholarships. He expressed appreciation to the Canadian government for assisting Grenada in the areas of Agriculture and modernizing the public service.

The issue of climate change was also discussed with the Canadian diplomat. She suggested that her country is seeking clarity on the way forward following the Copenhagen Summit. She said Canada was already very “generous” in providing support for areas of adaptation, specifically targeted at forestry management.

Ruth Archibald entered the Canadian Foreign Service in 1993, serving in various positions at home and abroad, including postings in South Africa and Colombo.
