Email To Friend Print Version | Dear Sir:
I am a Dominican living in the Diaspora and have been an avid and consistent reader of Caribbean Net News.
Let me say right up front that I am concerned that there seems to be a "deafening silence" with regards to what has been & is currently going on in the Island ofDominica as far as your Publication is concerned.
I note with interest that when I read your publicattion, I am kept informed and up to date with what is going on all other Caribbbean Islands except The Commonwealth of Dominca, a member of CARICOM. and I am not speaking of the articles, which seem to portray the current Administration as being progressive and acting in the best interest of the people. I speak of an unprecedented series of corrupt activities, which seem to go unreported in your publication.
eg: 1): Did you report on the fact that a local reporter Matthias Peltier, publisher of the Times newspaper was taken to court over publication of an article headlined, "$5000 Salary, Million Dollar Assets?" This article raised questions about the Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, and the fact that he had assets which could not be explained by his legal income, incidentally The PM ended up paying the Treasury of Dominica almost $55,000 in back taxes.
2): Did you report the fact that the former Dominican Ambassador to China, Mr David Shiu through his involvement in a Company called "Shangrila Investments" caused our PM Roosevelt Skerrit to end up as a witness in a BVI court defending the Dominica Goverment's position in the disappearance of $20,000 USD invested by a Mr Felix Chen of Sino Union. (the case has since been concluded as of November 2009).?
3): Why have you not reported that Mr Skerrit has called Elections for the 18th December 2009, amidst more damning and irrefutable evidence of more corruption?
4): Why have you not reported that immediately after calling Elections Mr Skerrit cut off access to the State-owned radio station by all Opposition parties and any citizens who expressed dissent ?
5): Why have you not reported that after announcing the Election call, the Labour Party Administration led by Roosevelt Skerrit announced campaign spending of $22.7 million EC including $3 million EC dollars to charter planes to bring members of the Dominican Diaspora living in the US. Canada, Europe and other Caribbean islands in to vote, a direct violation of our election laws in Dominica?
The above are just a few of the blatant acts of corruption which have been and are taking place in the Island, there are so many time and space does not permit me to list all, however if your publication is really interested in speaking truth to power and keeping the people informed, you may want to visit www.honestdominica.com or contact Journalists Lennox Linton, Matt Pelltier or Angelo Alleyne, who all are reputable journalists conncted to the only existing free press that still exists in the Island Q95FM RADIO @ 1-767-449-3095/3096/3097.
