Letter: Vincentians secure your democracy

Published on Friday, November 20, 2009 Email To Friend    Print Version

Dear Sir:

Ralph Gonsalves was hoping to divide and rule St Vincent and the Grenadines and create anarchy to divert attention to get his own way to take us into communism. He failed miserably, as Vincentians caught on to him before he knew it. The fact that the Labour Party sat idly by and let this happen bewilders me. It is the feeling of many of its supporters that Ralph has destroyed the party instead of uniting it. He is known in more ways than one as the Mighty Destroyer, it will no doubt take the party a very long time to recover from his destruction. Ralph and Campbell remind me of Milton Cato and Duff James in the run up to the 1984 general election.

What has happened in St Vincent and the Grenadines is an eye opener for our people as we must be very careful in choosing our leaders. We must remember, all that glitters is not gold. We had an economy that was managed by Prime Minister James Mitchell with the interest of Vincentians at heart. He may not have been perfect but who is? He is a man of wisdom and experience and led the way for Honorable Arnhim Eustace to follow in his footsteps. Be it resolved that Ralph Gonsalves will never see the light of day again in this office to take us down the path to terror and destruction leading to communism.

Under the New Democratic Party rule we saw many, many roads built where people never thought were possible, old labour called them Goutie tracks. This is the kind of disrespect and inconsideration that they had for us, too ease our pain of having to walk on dirt and stone roads to refer to them as such. People were able to build homes, get running water and electricity with ease under the NDP; it was the love for people that they brought these utilities and amenities to the people of SVG. You must have the love of people and country to serve; this is the basic ingredient for anyone wanting to hold public office anywhere in the world. Sir James was correct when he said “he made government look easy”.

As we approach November 25, we must bear in mind that this wicked document brought before us will go down in history as the most heinous crime committed on our people. The spending of millions and millions of dollars to serve only a few in a time when our country is in peril, a sinking economy, high inflation with VAT on basic essential fool items, poor people do not know where to turn for help. What kind of human beings could Ralph and Parnell be to force such a document on us at such a price? Vincentians, if you are so blind as they are to support the “Yes” vote, bear in mind, we will eat grass and mothers will band their bellies and bawl for murder as they will not be able to care for their children when Ralph finish his job of destruction. I do not think anyone presently in SVG has been through a hurricane. I lived though Hurricane Marilyn that struck the US Virgin Islands on the night September 15 and lasted into the wee hours of the morning of the 16th, 1995 as a category 2 that destroyed everything in its part. Hurricane Ralph, from all the winds clocked on the scale, seems to be a category 5 (which is the highest category) and there is nothing of hurricane resistance in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Vincentians, we must take back our country, we must secure and maintain our democracy, therefore, we have only one choice, to vote “No” on November 25 and bring home to our children and grandchildren a free country where democracy and peace will reign supreme.
