Dear Sir:
As the constitutional referendum in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) draws near, my mind wonders about the Queen and the proposed new constitution that makes me go “hmmm”.

The push to remove the Queen as Head of State
Victoria Park, a relic of the said colonialism that the Ralph Gonsalves administration likes to speak about. Victoria Park named for Queen Victoria who died over 100 years ago. Why hasn’t the name of Victoria Park been changed in eight years? This is a very simple task.
Yes, the place where you have Carnival every year and the recent independence giveaway announcement. It does not take a constitutional referendum to change the name of Victoria Park. It took just a weekend to place a one dollar tax on the people of the Grenadines, who already pay more for products and services. How serious is this Ralph Gonsalves’ lead administration?
What is your plan for the currency being used at present? The Queen is on the EC currency. Why it is the government is trying to entice expatriates and British citizens to invest in SVG? You don’t want the Queen, but her money will do! Are you planning to hook up with your boy Hugo and his new currency? Nice move, from colonialism to Social Dictatorship. We gain independence only to go back to slavery.
SVG being an independent nation, the Queen is only a figure head as Head of State. Where has the Queen or her representative, the Governor General (GG) represented SVG as Head of State? When was the last time the GG left the shores of SVG to represent SVG as Head of State?
No meaningful decision about SVG has been made by the Queen or the GG since independence. Not at Caricom or at the OAS level, nor at the WTO or at the United Nations level! If the Queen or the GG is the Head of State, why haven’t they made those decisions as to what direction the country goes? Did the Queen or the GG decide SVG should join ALBA? It is all done by the Prime Minister (PM) and his government. Therefore, in reality the PM is the true Head of State and the Queen is just a figure head.
O’ to the hypocrisy behind removing the Queen as Head of State and the audacity of these constitutional referendum hypocrites!
