Jamaican defendants to face judge in Miami in million-dollar lawsuit

MIAMI, USA -- The civil trial of the case against Frank Cox and DYC Fishing Ltd of Kingston, Jamaica, brought by Miami, Florida-based Perla Del Caribe Inc will proceed to trial in Miami Civil Court, before Judge Marc Schumacher.

The plaintiff, Perla, claims in excess of $1 million dollars due to it in profits from the 2000-2001 conch season by virtue of the fact that DYC Fishing failed to distribute any of the profits.

The case has been in the Miami courts since 2002 and rulings have been appealed on two occasions, including a ruling which still stands where all of DYC defenses were stricken by the Judge because DYC refused to turn over evidence of its costs of operations to Perla’s lawyers.

“Once and for all, Mr Cox will have to face his accusers in the courtroom and answer the questions he has been avoiding for seven years” stated Alfonso Perez, partner at the Coral Gables based law firm of Rasco Klock Reininger Perez Vigil Esquenazi & Nieto, which is representing Perla Del Caribe.
