Montserrat fishing tournament a huge success

BRADES, Montserrat -- The Montserrat Tourist Board has proclaimed the 15th Annual Montserrat Open Fishing Tournament a success. Held on October 31, 2009, the event drew the participation of 27 fishermen on eight boats, including five boats from the neighbouring island of Nevis.

Along with strong support from visitors and locals alike, the successful event also brought out the Minister of Agriculture, Easton Taylor Farrell and the Director of Tourism, Ernestine Cassell, who were both on hand to welcome the visiting boats and assist during the prize ceremony.

Black Fin from Nevis was crowned ‘The Champion Boat’ and received a check for EC$2,500 ($930 US), courtesy of the Montserrat Tourist Board. Black Fin also secured wins in two additional categories, the largest wahoo (49 lbs) and largest tuna (17.5 lbs).

Boats from Nevis cruised into the winners circle with Miss Bluegrass winning the category for largest kingfish caught (20 lbs) and Fast Forward for the largest dolphin caught (45.5 lbs). Montserratian, Alison Richards took home the winning prize in the women’s category of largest fish caught (wahoo, 28 lbs).
