Dominican Republic hosts OAS public security meeting

Email To Friend Print Version | SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic -- The President of the Dominican Republic, Leonel Fernández, met Wednesday with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), ministers, vice ministers, and heads of delegation attending the Second Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Public Security in the Americas (MISPA II), taking place until Thursday in Santo Domingo.

Fernández hosted a luncheon where an open and frank discussion took place regarding the issue of public security in the countries of the hemisphere.
Previously, Fernández and Secretary General Insulza also met to discuss issues related to the Inter-American Democratic Charter.
The Second Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Public Security in the Americas addresses issues such as the prevention of violence, public policies, the fight against organized crime and the exchange of experiences related to police intelligence.
Besides representatives from almost all OAS Member States, the meeting also features presentations by representatives of INTERPOL, the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), among others.
