Email To Friend Print Version | GEORGETOWN, Guyana -- A group of heavily armed gunmen launched an early Wednesday morning attack on the Brickdam police station creating panic in the quiet downtown Georgetown, Guyana.
The armed men arrived at around 2 am on Wednesday in a white Toyota wagon, drove straight into the station and opened firing injuring two ranks in the process -- one of them shot in the jaw and the other in the leg
Police chased after the men and were in hot pursuit as they reportedly cornered the group in the Houston/McDoom area on the East Bank of Demerara.
This shooting occurred simultaneously with the fire-bombing of a school and the Supreme Court in the capital
Around 2 30 am, armed men entered the court compound a few hundred yards from the police station that was attacked and hurled several channa bombs (Molotov cocktails), eyewitnesses say.
As fire fighters battled to contain the blaze, which did not result in major damages except for some court records, another fire was set by channa bombs, this time at a city school -- the Richard Ishmael Secondary School, which also suffered minor damage
Police have recovered the car allegedly used by the gunmen in this area.
