Letter: NNP - the party of disrespect

Dear Sir:
The Carriacou and Petite Martinique NDC Constituency Support Group is appalled by the recent utterances of the Political Leader , deputy Political Leader and the deputy General Secretary of the defeated New National Party. It seems to us that Dr Keith Mitchell, Hon Elvin Nimrod and Hon Claris Cowen Modeste are all suffering from some psychological trauma ever since the NNP lost the last general elections and we are convinced that these individuals are in need of psychiatric treatment.
The NNP so called caravan of hope , has turned out to be a caravan of disrespect, fear and downright foolishness.
Even members of the NNP are expressing their disgust by the conduct of NNP Political and deputy Political Leader. Elections in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique were held just over a year ago, however if you listen to the utterances of these individuals it is like election is due tomorrow. The primary objective of Dr Mitchell and the NNP is to exploit the current economic situation facing our people and spread fear in the minds .This has been the hallmark of the NNP for the thirteen years that they had been in office.
A constructive and progressive opposition instead of engaging in dirty politics and fearmongering at a time when our people are trying desperately to make ends meet would have work towards promoting unity, hard work and discipline among the populace. Instead Dr. Mitchell and his NNP appears to have lost their own senses and self discipline and is callously referring to our people as dogs who lost the NNP corrupt bone. Dr Claris Cowen Modeste's comparison of our people to dogs who lost a bone by looking at its shadow in a pond is insensitive and disrespectful. Then again she may be right because not a single dissenting voice was heard at the political meeting when she made such a comparison. We presumed that after thirteen years in office and making her constituency the poorest in Grenada she is fully aware of what she is talking about.
The level of insensitivity displayed by the two main leaders of the NNP is unbelievable and unacceptable. Every right thinking, sober and decent citizen of this beautiful Spice Isles must be ashamed to know that these are the type of people who were the our rulers for thirteen years. The level of disrespect show to Dr Emerson Peters a patriot of Grenada , Carriacou and Petite Martinique by Elvin Nimrod and Keith Mitchell is unacceptable and highly irresponsible.
Dr Emerson Peters, despite been born with a disability, attained the highest level in his field of study through hard work, committment and dedication.. Nimrod can't put his foot in Dr Peters shoe. Nimrod's attack on Dr Emerson Peters is a s a result of petty grudges and jealousy.
For Nimrod to make a mockery of Dr. Peters' disability it is an insult to the people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique and especially our citizens with disabilities. Hon Elvin Nimrod, Parliamentary Representative for Carriacou and Petite Martinique and the Deputy Political Leader of the NNP referring to Dr Emerson Peters as a 'ram goat' is immature, childish and dumb.
What is however more appalling and of concern to us as decent citizens is the attitude and conduct of the NNP supporters when Nimrod made that statement. This is just an indication of the low and gutter level that Dr Keith Mitchell, Elvin Nimrod and the NNP took our unsuspecting people over the years. It is also appalling that none of the people who appear in public to be a bit respectable didn't see it fit to advise Dr Keith and Nimrod that they are addressing human beings and must conduct themselves with responsibility and the status of their offices.
This seems to be the emerging pattern of Dr Keith and the NNP. One can recall the comical display of the Political Leader at the last NNP convention when he was making reference to the Hon Tillman Thomas Prime Minister of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Dr Mitchell must come to the realisation that he is no longer the Prime Minister of Grenada , Carriacou and Petite Martinique and that there were Prime Ministers before him and there will be many more after him.
All that the Carriacou and Petite Martinique NDC Constituency Support Group is demanding is some respect for our fellow brothers and sisters from Dr Keith Mitchell political leader and Elvin Nimrod Parliamentary Representative and deputy political leader of the defeated NNP.Mockery should never be made of a fellow citizen with a disability and especially from our political leaders.
What kind of message are we sending for our young people? Go out on a platform and use derogatory words about their peers. It is a shame that the type of political cartoon currently being displayed by Her Majesty's Opposition isn't so majestic. The queen would be saddened to learn that the leader of Her Majesty's Opposition is conducting himself in a way that is very unprecedented for a position of such stature and responsibility
The Carriacou and Petite Martinique NDC Constituency Support Group is calling on Dr Keith Mitchell, Hon Elvin Nimrod and Dr Claris Cowen Modeste if they are still honorable to apologise to the people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique for their insensitivity to our citizens with disabilities and all the decent citizens of this land. Our political leaders and politicians must be men and women of high esteem if we are to move forward and grow as a people and the utterances of these individuals is Mediocrity . Medocrity must not be tolerated and must be condemned by all including the NNP supporters.
The people of Carriacou and Petite Martinique is so pleased that immediately after the NNP public meetings were loads and loads of verbal filt were spewed , the Almighty saw if right and proper to wash our blessed lands of all the NNP verbal waste. What God blesses, no man curses.
