Caribbean terror alert
WASHINGTON, USA (AFP): The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI late Friday warned that Al-Qaeda operatives may be planning to hijack cargo jets in the Caribbean and use them to attack power plants and other critical infrastructure in the United States.
The alert was based on uncorroborated information from a single informant, according to US media reports. But authorities deemed it serious enough to issue the warning.

One dead, six injured in plane crash in Guyana
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (AFP): A small private plane crash-landed in a sugar cane field Saturday shortly after take-off from Georgetown airport for a mining location in Guyana's jungle, killing one crewman and injuring six other persons aboard, officials said.
"We had to crash-land and that's the only decision that we could have taken because we had engine problems," the plane's co-pilot, Bhairo Persaud, said from his hospital bed here.
All passengers and crew were Guyanese.
