University professors go on strike in the Dominican Republic

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Professors at the Dominican Republic's biggest public university went on strike yesterday to demand a 100 percent salary hike. The Miami Herald reports that David Torres, head of the Federation of Professors' Associations, said teachers' salaries have remained static over the last five years. The professors are also asking for more classrooms, lab equipment and better working conditions.
