No new exclusive utility licences in the Cayman Islands

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands: In a statement to the Cayman Islands Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, the Hon. Linford Pierson, Minister of Planning, Communications, Works & Information Technology, announced that no new licences for the generation or supply of electricity to the public for reward will be granted on an exclusive basis.

Guyana President for meeting with Bush

GEORGETOWN, Guyana: Guyana's President Mr. Baharrat Jagdeo will meet with U.S. President Mr. George W. Bush next Wednesday morning, 24th September, the Guyana Chronicle has reported.

The two leaders will reportedly discuss national and international issues at a breakfast meeting in New York. The meeting will be held during the period of the United Nations General Assembly, which President Jagdeo will attend.


Jamaica's ruling party hosts conference today

KINGSTON, Jamaica: Members of Jamaica's ruling party, the People's National Party, meet today at the National Arena for the 65th annual conference aimed at discussing the party's diminishing political clout. The conference will last for four days.

Tourist arrivals up in Jamaica

KINGSTON, Jamaica: Jamaica's tourist sector is growing by leaps and bounds. Dr. Wykeham McNeill, Minister of State in the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, says that there has been strong, positive movement in the sector so far this year, with stopover arrivals for January to July growing by seven per cent over the same period in 2002.

Barbados, Cuba judged among favourite of tourism industry

Two cruise ships cancelled to St. Maarten because of Isabel

POINTE BLANCHE, St. Maarten: Two cruise ships scheduled to arrive in St. Maarten today, cancelled the stop over because of Hurricane Isabel, the Daily Herald reported.  The Grand Princess, cancelled its visit because of the hurricane currently barreling in the Atlantic towards the U.S. north coast.


Winair celebrates 40th anniversary of flying to Saba

THE BOTTOM, Saba: Forty years ago today, Windward Island Airways Ltd., made its first landing at the Juancho Yrausquin Airport in Saba.   Yesterday, government lauded the airline for making "a major change in the life of Saba and the people of Saba…"  "Winair," said a statement, "has opened the gates to the world for the island and especially where tourism is concern. Winair has also been an asset to the island in times of health care. We cannot emphasize enough the importance of having Winair fly in to our island."

Kenya for Windies cricket tour

NAIROBI, Kenya: The Kenyan cricket squad is gearing up for its first ever major cricket tour. The Kenyans will be in the West Indies for a three-month trip, starting in January, 2004, the Kenya Cricket Association reported. They will play a series of four-day and one-day internationals in preparation for the next World Cup. The trip will start on 10th January and last through the end of March. 


Former Windies skipper betting on Bangladesh

LONDON, England: Clive Lloyd, the Guyanese-born former skipper of the West Indies squad, says England should beware of the Bangladesh cricket team.  Lloyd, now an International Cricket Council match referee, says he's seen the team play twice this year, and they "might not be the pushovers people might think."
