Barbados' Arthur urges creation of a Caribbean cruise line

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: Barbados Prime Minister Mr. Owen Arthur wants tourism partners in the region to unite and create a Caribbean cruise line.
The Barbados Nation quoted the prime minister as saying, "The Caribbean controls 58 per cent of the international cruise business but there is no Caribbean cruise line . . . the cruise sector is the one sector where we have a dominant market position, but there is no serious Caribbean presence in the industry," said Arthur.

Hurricane Isabel now 535 miles from the Bahamas

MIAMI, Florida: Hurricane Isabel continued heading west-northwestward late last night with forecasters at the National Weather Service Center in Miami saying the center of Hurricane Isabel was located about 1,370 km south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina and about 535 miles east of Nassau in the Bahamas.

Trinidad police investigating threatening mobile text message

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad: Two days after a conference on terrorism wrapped up in Trinidad, police in the twin-island Republic were yesterday, confronted with reports of a threatening text message sent to hundreds of mobile phone customers.

Jamaica misses sugar quota

KINGSTON, Jamaica: Jamaican sugar producers produced just over half of the 280,000 tons it had guaranteed European Union markets and missed earning another US$432 million in profits. So says Mr. Karl James, head of the Jamaica Cane Products and heads the Sugar Association of the Caribbean.

He is Mr. Zorol Barthley, 37, a former Antigua & Barbuda opening batsman who led the Young West Indies in three "Tests" against Young England in 1985 and also played for Surrey in the English County Second XI Championship.
