Bermuda trying to regroup after Fabian

HAMILTON, Bermuda: It is already day three since the wrath of Hurricane Fabian was unleashed on this mid-Atlantic British colony. At nightfall yesterday, 7th September, the clean-up efforts continued even as electricity workers worked around the clock to restore power to the 25,000 homes that were in darkness since Friday, 5th September. By last night, some 4,000 homes got power back.

Jamaica's oldest newspaper in talks to acquire Britain's leading black-oriented newspaper

KINGSTON, Jamaica: The Jamaica Gleaner is apparently looking to zone in further on the growing black population in Britain. A brief article in the Sunday, 7th September edition of the paper revealed that its owners had begun negotiations with publishers of the Voice, a London-based weekly that targets Britain's large black and African-Caribbean community, to acquire the paper.

Government in the Dominican Republic slash gas prices

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic: The regular price for a gallon of gasoline in the Dominican Republic is now back down to $1.70, a drop of 28 cents.  The drop, according to wire reports, came as the country's peso recovered some value against the U.S. dollar.

The Dominican Republic's Industry and Commerce Ministry cut the price of gasoline on Saturday, 6th September, after weeks of price increases. Unleaded premium fell from $2.20 to $2.
