THE VALLEY, Anguilla: Health Officials in Anguilla are continuing to closely monitor the Tuberculosis (TB) case at the Viceroy Project. The infected person is currently in isolation undergoing a course of antibiotic treatment.
On Wednesday, officials from the Ministry of Health, Health Authority of Anguilla (HAA), Chief Minister’s Office and Viceroy met to discuss the issues related to the TB case.
This follows an earlier meeting where officials from the Ministry of Health and the HAA convened a conference call with experts from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to review TB protocols and to agree on a plan for the management of potential cases.
PAHO has agreed to deploy epidemiologist Dr Pascal Frison to Anguilla on Tuesday 31st March. Dr Frison will be joined by Dr Beryl Irons from the Caribbean Epidemiological Centre on Thursday to further provide comprehensive support on the matter.
A number of recommendations were submitted to Thursday’s meeting of the Executive Council and the following main points were approved for action.
- Immigration of Indian workers on the Viceroy project be halted with immediate effect and until further notice
- All migrants workers be screened by HAA officials within 72 hours of arrival to Anguilla
- All migrant workers coming from countries where TB or other communicable diseases are endemic, be quarantined until they are screened
- The Project Liaison Officer ensure that persons undergo medical screening
- All migrant workers coming from countries where TB or other communicable diseases are endemic undergo medical screening before departing Anguilla in keeping with the International Health Regulations
- All persons seeking work permits obtain a medical certificate from a Health Authority of Anguilla Medical Officer
There are currently some 695 Indian workers employed on the Viceroy Project. |
