LONDON, England: Reggae Boy Theodore
Whitmore contract with Tranmere Rovers was cancelled after both parties came
to a mutual agreement on Wednesday night.
Whitmore, a former Hull City midfielder joined the Rovers in May 2004, but has
struggled to find a regular place in the side.
The Jamaican international, who scored both
goals for the Reggae Boys when they defeated Japan 2-1 to snatch their only
win at the 1998 World Cup in France, made only 20 starting appearances last
season and appeared five times as a substitute this season.
"He hasn't been able to gain a regular place in the team this season so we
have given him the opportunity to move on with his career," Rovers manager
Brian Little was quoted as saying. "He is
someone I have known for a long time who has been a very good player for me
and I wish him every success in the future."
Whitmore is a veteran of more than 100 international caps for Jamaica and
played at Hull City between 1999 and 2002. In
the meantime, Whitmore's countryman Ian Goodison, who also transferred to
Rovers from Hull City in 2004, is relishing his time at the club, making 22
starts in the league this season and one in the league cup.
Tranmere currently sits at 14th position with 33-points in the Coca-Cola
Football League One.
