GRAND TURK, Turks & Caicos Islands: Continuing its winning ways of 2005, the Turks and Caicos Islands has received yet another addition to its collection of
awards.
Scuba Diving (Caribbean and Atlantic) Readers’ Choice Awards listed Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands among the ‘Top Five’ – Top Big Animal Encounters and ‘Top Twenty’ – Top Dive Destinations, while Grand Turk and Salt Cay were listed in the Top Three – Top Wall Diving; Top Five Healthiest Marine Environment and Top Fifteen – Top Dive Destinations.
The Turks and Caicos Islands boasts one of the largest reef systems in the Caribbean and a rich diversity of marine life. Complemented by miles and miles of white sandy beaches, which embraces some of the world’s finest resorts and dive operations, have carved out a name for themselves, which is only surpassed by the dazzling beauty of the other world beneath the sea.
According to Deputy Director of Tourism, Mr. Ralph Higgs, these findings reinforce what we already believe and promote, that we are indeed “Beautiful By Nature”. For this I am pleased and invite the world to come and experience for themselves.
For his part, Director of Tourism, Mr. Lindsey Musgrove stated, “We are delighted with our success and accolades so far. I am especially pleased with the work that the Department of Environment and Coastal Resources and our Dive Operators are doing in protecting and preserving our environment. While we seek to develop new products, attract new airlift, and target new niche markets, we must seek to protect our environment if development is to be sustained.”
"With awards being bestowed upon us and major projects opening up, 2006 promises to be a very robust and exciting year for tourism in the Turks and Caicos Islands."
