GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands: The much-anticipated Cayman Islands premiere of the movie
‘Haven’, which was filmed on location in Grand Cayman, will take place in Spring 2006 with the support of Cable & Wireless. Directed and written by Caymanian filmmaker Frank E. Flowers, the movie features a prestigious ensemble cast including Bill Paxton, Orlando Bloom, Zoe Saldana, Victor Rasuk, Joy Bryant, as well as a host of local residents as featured performers and extras. The film takes place over the course of one weekend, chronicling the stories of a shady businessman (Bill Paxton) who flees to the Cayman Islands to avoid federal prosecution, juxtaposed against a Romeo and Juliet-type love story between Orlando Bloom and Zoe Saldana’s characters. Cable & Wireless has continuously supported the production of this movie. During the filming, the Cayman Islands’ first telecommunications company donated phone services to the actors and crew. “We are very excited to host a special screening of
Haven in the Cayman Islands. There was a lot of excitement in Cayman during filming, with lots of residents getting involved, and we are delighted that we will all get to see the finished movie,” commented Paul Taylor, VP Sales & Marketing Cable & Wireless Northern Area. “A young Caymanian, Frankie has worked very hard to succeed in the extremely competitive movie industry and Cable & Wireless is proud to support his efforts,” he added. Director and writer of
Haven, Frank E. Flowers, commented “It has been a very long road for us, and we are excited to finally be bringing this film to the world. This was my passion project and love song to the island. We are dealing with a lot of issues in the film that are more prevalent now than ever before – especially in regards to the infiltration of gang culture and the tragedy of youth violence in these islands. The premiere of this film will be done with the same spirit in which we made the picture, as we hope to involve the entire community and especially those who worked so hard, on every level, to make this a reality.” US distribution for the movie has now been confirmed.
Haven will be shown at approximately 500 screens in the top 20 markets in Spring 2006.
