First-ever Grenadian movie produced on domestic violence

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada:  Domestic violence and how it affects society continues to be a topic of interest in most countries and in Grenada a full-length movie ‘Blinded’ is making it even more interesting. The movie, which was produced, written and developed by Anderson Quarless, is geared at educating people as to how they can avoid domestic violence and the reason why one must speak out against it.

‘Blinded’, which is a 1hr and 10mins production, received its blessing last Friday at the Grenada Trade Center, with A+ rating. This first-ever Grenadian movie, according to Mr Quarless, will allow both men and women to understand their role in society, how they can overcome life’s challenges and embrace the opportunities.

“I hope that every woman seeing this film will resort to the better choice in life and find a way to speak out if she is a victim of such abuse,” he said. He noted that with this film it is hoped that men will think twice on how to deal with situations and circumstances that lead to anger.

He said Blinded is all about breaking the silence, and the movie will not just end here but it will take on a broader spectrum. Mr Quarless said he intends to take this new project to the schools here using his actors and also to participate in the regional film festival.

According to the producer, the driving force behind this film was his determination to do something different for himself and Grenada.

For this young producer it was no easy task in getting this initiative completed, and he is making a special call to the business community to support the project, especially since Blinded is the first-ever produced movie in the Spice Isle, with no upfront financing.

The completed movie is expected to be released on December 24, but will not be sold to the public just yet. Quarless and his editor Jacequlin Bailey will seek to promote Blinded at all possible visual media on the island.

The production team for Blinded include: Head of production Kellon Andall, Second Unit Curlan John, Ervin Hood and Curvin Thomas. .
