GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands: Caymanians, residents and non-resident visitors alike were in for two more days of unique jazz experiences following the opening of the Cayman JazzFest on the British dependency on Thursday night.

Jazz aficionados were treated to an evening of virtuoso jazz performances at the Westin Casuarina Resort and Spa in the world-class musical event that has sprung up in Grand Cayman in just two short years.

"This is one of the few Caribbean music festivals on the roster each year that is truly jazz. Our goal is to keep it small and intimate – even if that means fewer visitors, those who come will have a high quality jazz experience," said Director of Tourism, Pilar Bush.

To provide that experience, the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism is partnering with BET Event Productions and BET Jazz for the second consecutive year. "We have a responsibility to work well with our partners who work well with us and they have done that," said Bush.

Thursday night featured the Jazz rhythms of Najee, Earl Klugh and Intransit, while Al Jarreau, George Duke, Hi Tide and KayKay take to the stage on Friday night. The festival concludes on Saturday with Yolanda Adams, Ravi Coltrane, Arturo Tappin, Sea N' B, and Notch.

Cybelle Brown, Vice President of Sales and Marketing with BET Digital Networks, said the Cayman festival crowns a busy year for the television network, which has once again introduced quality artistes and music to the Caribbean region. "We are privileged to help expose the quintessential beauty of the Caribbean region to international visitors and are happy to see the increasing interest in Cayman this year."

Brown said that BET Jazz was pleased with its relationship with the Department of Tourism in the Cayman Islands, and placed confidence in its visionary leadership to continue fuelling an important sector which contributes so much to the islands' development.
