Cable & Wireless installs new regional messaging gateway
Monday, November 7, 2005
GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands: Cable & Wireless has announced the integration of a state-of-the-art messaging gateway which will enable the company to provide its
bmobile customers with access to more content services, using more content providers, at a more rapid pace, to accommodate
bmobile’s roadmap for messaging, games, music, photos, and other content.
Finland-based Exomi has partnered with Cable & Wireless to install the Exomi Messaging Gateway (EMG,) a platform for the provisioning, delivery, management, and charging of messaging and content services.
“This is an exciting investment for our company, as it makes the future of mobile content possible for our
bmobile customers,” explained Kevin Wiley, vice president of mobile services for Cable & Wireless in the Caribbean. “It is imperative that we are able to turn important partnerships -- such as our relationships with BET and MTV’s new television network, Tempo, and our sponsorship the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 -- into exciting and relevant products for our customers throughout the region.”
“Exomi has a proven track record in Latin America and Europe, where in some cases the market for mobile messaging and content services is more developed than it is in the Caribbean today. This new technology from Exomi will enable us to manage existing services more efficiently, and to roll-out new content quickly,” explained Julio Bran, executive vice president of network services for Cable & Wireless Caribbean.
“These capabilities will be important for satisfying our customers’ needs, as we expect consumer interest in products such as Text Messaging, Games, Ring Tones, and Wallpapers, to continue growing,” added Wiley. “In the last year alone, usage of such products amongst our customers in the Caribbean has more than doubled, and as more customers upgrade to new handsets, we expect this trend to continue,” Wiley explained.
The new platform will provide access to bmobile customers located in Anguilla, Antigua, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts & Nevis, St., Lucia, St. Vincent & Grenadines, and Turks & Caicos.
According to Exomi’s Chief Executive Officer Kari Kailamaki, the company is pleased to extend its cooperation with Cable & Wireless throughout the Caribbean region. “We’ve enjoyed a successful relationship with Cable & Wireless’ business in Panama since 2003. We are looking forward to supporting Cable & Wireless, and playing a key role in their rapidly growing mobile Value-Added Services business.”
