BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: Attorney General and
Deputy Prime Minister, Mia Mottley says that, after pleading its best case,
Barbados now has to wait for the outcome of its maritime boundary and
fisheries dispute with Trinidad and Tobago.
Ms. Mottley who was Barbados' agent in the matter says she's very comfortable
about how the country's case was presented at the hearing before the
Arbitration Tribunal at the International Dispute Resolution Centre in London.
Very limited information regarding the
hearing has been released, and Ms. Mottley has explained that a gag order was
imposed on the content of the proceedings until the decision is handed down.
It is expected that that will happen in another few months.
Fully supporting that decision, the AG said there was concern the issues could
be taken out of context and contended that "the two countries have too much at
stake in relation to the rest of their economic, social political and cultural
relations for us to allow that to happen."
