Gospel greats gather for 'Blessings in Paradise' in USVI

Friday, October 21, 2005

ST. THOMAS, USVI: Blessings in Paradise, the notable gospel celebration, returns to Lionel Roberts Stadium on St. Thomas on October 21, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. for an exuberant evening of gospel music featuring some of the genre’s most accomplished performers.

Premier saxophonist Angélla Christie will headline the event with keynote speaker Bishop Thomas D. Jakes, whose Dallas-based multiracial ministry serves 30,000 nondenominational members. A much-admired source of spiritual inspiration, Jakes leads “The Potter’s House” and is a frequent guest on television programs ranging from “Oprah” to “Larry King Live.”

An audience of over 5,000 is expected to attend the event, which is co-sponsored by the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism. “We are pleased to have an opportunity to be a part of this historic event,” said Pamela C. Richards, Commissioner of Tourism. “Blessings in Paradise is an event of singular achievement, bringing together so many talented performers for an evening of incomparable gospel music.”

Christie and Jakes will be joined by U.S. Virgin Islanders Denise Barclay and Neville Peter, who are returning specifically for this concert; as well as Levor Lettsome of the British Virgin Islands and local artists Judith Turnbull and Neomie Toussaint-Williams.

Presented by IQ Enterprises, Blessings in Paradise is a series of gospel celebrations featuring top speakers and musicians and is scheduled to be held in the Caribbean for the next six years.
