Grenadian Roberts confident in Wigan’s attack

Friday, September 30, 2005

LONDON, England:  Grenadian International Jason Roberts is back to form and he is warning that Wigan Athletic will be a force to reckon with in front of the net this season.

Roberts is one of five strikers on the Lactics roster and he believes the club's potential upfront will be one to fear in the Premiership.

"We now have some really potent options up front and it can only improve us as players and as a squad, said Roberts.

"Henri Camara impressed me straight away, as I think he did all our fans, so to lose him was a blow. But he's back in full training again and looking hot."

Roberts also had a stint with new-boy David Connolly, who netted 13 goals for Leicester City last season, and the Grenadian is also excited about the about their partnership.

"David Connolly was magnificent against West Brom and I feel me and him hit it off straight away. We are different types of players with different qualities and that's what usually makes for a great partnership.

"Lets not forget either that Andreas Johansson and Lee McCulloch can play in a forward attacking role, so the Gaffer (Paul Jewell) has some good options to select from," Roberts added.

In the mean time, Roberts, 27, believes there is no set place for any striker in the team and the strong competition for the nod will definitely keep them on their toes.

"The best aspect of having a number of us pushing for the starting jersey is that it keeps up all on our toes. I know that if I fall below par then there is someone snapping at my heels ready to take my place.

"That's how it should be and it makes you a sharper, better player. David and Henri feel the same and it means that all of us fighting to get the nod to play up front will have to produce the goods for Wigan Athletic."

On Sunday Wigan is schedule to clash with in-form Bolton at the JJB Stadium, and manager Paul Jewell is expected to use Roberts and Camara as his first choice.
