NEW YORK, USA: The bright red, white and
black colors of the flag of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago fluttered all
night long at Brooklyn Marriott Hotel on Saturday, August 20, at the gala Ball
commemorating the 43rd Independence Anniversary celebrations of the twin
island republic.
Nationals from across the tri-state region
and beyond --all adorned in glamorous formal attire -- filled the elegantly
decorated ball room in celebrations and to share in the revelry of the annual
event. The celebrations hosted annually, by The Trinidad and Tobago Independence Celebrations Committee (TATIC) attracted capacity support in the warn August night. Guests
were treated to the melodic and scintillating unique sounds of the Republic by famed Steel Pan orchestra, Pan Sonatas
(2004 New York Panorama Champions); East Indian classical dance -- the twin island republic is a veritable melting pot of races, with an East Indian population of more then 38 percent
-- and non-stop dance music, with guests dancing into the wee morning hours by famed band, Lambert and the Matadors. The visiting Minister of Public Administration and Information Dr. Lenny Saith gave the keynote address, extolling with obvious pride to nationals and guests the steady growth and progress of the oil-rich islands. TATIC Awards was presented to outstanding and distinguish nationals and to the first president of the recently instituted Caribbean Court of Justice, Justice Michael de la Bastide, T.C. , Dr. Elizabeth Nunez, Author and Professor; Aldwin Albino, Steel Pan Musical Arranger; Roy Peake , Entrepreneur and Athletes & Olympians Nigle Traverso and sprinter Darrell Brown
