SCARBOROUGH, Tobago: The rich cultural
heritage of Tobago came to the fore once again over the weekend with the
inaugural Tobago Muhtadi International Drumming Festival which was staged at
the Shaw Park Cultural Complex in Scarborough.
The event was also Muhtadi's first production in the Caribbean and patrons
were treated to riveting performances from several local artistes, including
Roy Samuel Percussive Ensemble, Culture Shoppe and Royal Sweet Fingers.
There was also an international flair at the festival which culminated with
pulsating drum rhythms from Japan, India and Brazil.
The event which has been described as a success, was a collaborative effort
between Muhtadi Productions and the Tobago House of Assembly (TBH), and comes
right on the heels of the just concluded Tobago Heritage Festival.
