PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: Trinidad and Tobago's top male sprinter Darrel Brown is on the right track to run below 10-sec according to his coach Henry
Rolle. Brown, the 2002 World junior champion and record holder at 10.01, only managed fourth place at the Jamaica International Invitational in Kingston, Jamaica on May 7, but Coach Rolle believes the youngster robbed himself of a possible 10.05 when he eased up in the last couple metres after seeing that Asafa Powell already had the race wrapped up. "Darrel was ready to run about 10.05," Rolle, told the Trinidad Express. "He was second, but when he realised he could not catch Asafa Powell, he eased up, and was passed by two guys." Brown, who is based in Alabama, clocked 10.12 to finish fourth behind a Jamaican sweep headed by Powell who raced to the line in 9.84. Powell's time was not only a Jamaican record but the fastest time in the world this season, while equalling the third fastest of all-time. Also finishing ahead of Brown were Dwight Thomas at 10.05 and Michael Frater at 10.09. Brown is the reigning World championships silver medallist over the 100m, the place where he achieved his world junior record time finishing second to St. Kitts and Nevis' Kim Collins. While giving praises to his own athlete, Rolle acknowledged the fact that Powell was just unbeatable on the day. "Asafa ran a great race. He was unbeatable on Saturday night (May 7)." While Trinidad and Tobago
look to Brown and Marc Burns to lead the charge in the men's sprint, the Caribbean has the chance to win gold silver and bronze in the men's 100m. While Powell is the leading contender to strike gold at this point, Brown, Collins, Thomas and Frater are all capable sprinters.
