LONDON, England:  Trinidad and Tobago's international goalkeeper Clayton Ince has been offered a new contract by English Championship Division club Crewe Alexandra's boss Dario Gradi.

Ince and four other players have been offered new deals only a week after surviving relegation from the division. But manager Gradi stated that things could have well been different had the team been relegated.

"We have offered Clayton a two-year contract and all the rest one year deals," the manager said.

"We don't like any of our players to go into June thinking that they might not be paid in July. That is not the way we do things and we hope all of them stay with us.

"I really didn't know what to do with Clayton until the end of the season. If we had gone down then perhaps things would have been different, but when we thought about it we knew we wanted to keep him. It became a quick decision."

The 32 year old Ince signed with the Crewe in September 1999 from locally-based club Defence Force for £50,000 and Gradi believes that the Trinidadian deserved a new contract especially "after regaining the number one jersey from Ben Williams."

"He has worked hard to regain the number one spot and that is full credit to him and we would like him to stay," the manager told the team's website.

"I suppose he may have a few options because of his International status. He is an International goalkeeper and plays all over the world, so it would be easily for him to attract an offer."

Ince also received praises from his manager who said that "he feels Ince is one of the finest goalkeepers he has worked with and claims that he has never seen a better goalkeeper come for crosses."

The other players joining Ince at the club for next season will be defenders Adie Moses, Colin Murdock, Chris McCready, and Neil Sorvel.

With Shaka Hislop opting out of the Soca Warriors line up, Ince is likely to stand between the sticks for the next two 2006 World Cup qualifiers against Panama at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on June 4 followed by the June 8 clash with Mexico.
