BASSETERRE, St. Kitts: Foreign Minister of Taiwan, Dr. Tan Sun Chen, begins a three-day visit to St. Kitts and Nevis on Sunday night, the first stop of a two-nation Eastern Caribbean tour. Dr. Chen, who was appointed to the post in April last year, is leading an 8-member delegation in talks with St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas, Deputy Prime Minister, Sam Condor and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Dr Timothy Harris on Monday. Dr Chen, who is also Chairman of the International Cooperation and Development Fund, will be guest of honour at a luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Douglas on Monday. Foreign Minister Chen, who will be accompanied by his wife, June, will later visit the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, before attending a working dinner with his St. Kitts and Nevis counterpart on Monday night. St. Kitts and Nevis’ Governor General Dr Cuthbert Sebastian hosts a breakfast at his Official Residence on Tuesday morning, prior to a handing over ceremony on site at the Warner Park Development. Dr Chen, following brief remarks, will present the third installment of US$1.5 million to Prime Minister Douglas, for the continued financing of the facilities to host Cricket World Cup 2007. Forma/Carillion. Foreign Minister Chen and his delegation leaves here on Tuesday afternoon for St. Vincent and the Grenadines on a similar three-day visit. Dr Chen worked in the United States Federal Government Department of Commerce from 1973 to 1992. He served as Chairman of the Taiwanese Association of America and Chairman of the World Federation of Taiwanese Associations in 1979. He is a former Chairman, Formosan Association for Public Affairs (1982) and served as a Legislator in the Legislative Yuan in 1992. Dr. Chen served as Magistrate of Tainan County from 1993 to 2001 and since 2000 is Member of the Committee on Scientific Technology, Office of the President.
