ST THOMAS, USVI: Representative Donna Christiansen's Office has issued a statement that the US House of Representatives' Department of Homeland Security's Authorization Bill now includes consideration for placement of border patrol agents in the Caribbean.
House Committee Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, Christopher Cox, agreed to include the US Virgin Islands Territory in the Authorization Report, which led to Representative Christiansen's decision not to pursue an amendment seeking authorization of border patrol agents for the USVI.
The Authorization Act of Funding Year 2006, was passed by the Committee on April 27. The final report seeks a total of 2,000 agents to patrol US points of entry into the country.
