
International University of Nursing in St Kitts to begin classes in May

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS: The International University of Nursing in St. Kitts is to start classes next month.
This has been disclosed by the Dean of the nursing school, Dr. Linda A. Simunek during a meeting with St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas.
Updating Prime Minister Douglas on the project, Dr. Simunek disclosed that construction of the US$10 million dollar facilities continues and classes will begin on May 16 . The Second Semester begins in September and the Third Semester in January 2006.
Dr. Simunek told the Communications Unit of
the Office of the Prime Minister that some 160 students have already submitted applications and the first semester will begin with students from the United States, Barbados, Africa, India, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, the United States, the Philippines, Jamaica and St. Kitts and Nevis.
The International University of Nursing and Government have agreed that two local students will be provided with scholarships annually. The scholarships will cover tuition, books and equipment and after consultation with government, boarding, lodging and food when the students have to travel to the United States to complete the nursing programme.
The University will offer associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees in nursing. Under the agreement, the International University of Nursing has an obligation to increase its enrollment to 1500 students.
The University has already recruited some faculty and support staff and is still conducting interviews.
St. Kitts and Nevis beat several Caribbean countries as the site for the nursing university in the Caribbean that will train hundreds of nurses from around the world.
