Track stars set for Felix Sanchez Invitational

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic:  Several regional and international track stars will gather in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on Saturday 14 May for the Felix Sanchez Invitational, schedule for the Juan Pablo Duarte Stadium at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.

Commonly know as the Grand Prix Cristobal de Leon Santo Domingo, the organisers have renamed this year's meet in honour of World and Olympic 400m Hurdles champion Felix Sanchez.

Sanchez who opened his season running the 100 and 200m before finishing sixth at the weekend's Mt. SAC relays in the 400, has confirmed that he will compete in the 400m hurdles for the first time at this meet. The 27 year-old Sanchez, so far blazed 10.45 (100m), 20.88 (200m) and 46.32 (400m) already this season. 

Apart from Sanchez, Jamaica's Olympic relay gold medallist Aleen Bailey and World 100m champion Kim Collins of St. Kitts and Nevis heads the list of stars already confirmed for the meet. Other big names who will be on show are Jamaican and World Junior 200m record holder Usain Bolt, Joanna Hayes who blasted an American and Olympic record 12.37 at the last summer's Athens games and World and Olympic Long Jump champion Dwight Phillips of the U.S.

Sydney 2000 Olympic 110m hurdles champion Anier Garcia heads the list of men competitors in the sprint hurdles while Jamaica's Vonette Dixon and former World junior champion Anay Tejeda of Cuba heads the women's list. Also confirmed are Savante Stringfellow and Saint Vincent & the Grenadines' former NCAA sprint star Natasha Mayers. 

Athletes from Europe, U.S. and the Caribbean will contest the 15-event competition.
