FLORIDA, USA: Jamaica's national 200-metres champion Steve Mullings was a sprint double winner at the Bulldog Invitational at the W.O.
Spencer Stadium/Carl Maddox Track on Saturday.
Mullings, who now represents Mississippi State University (MSU), won the men's 100m in a wind-aided 10.06sec before running away with the 200m in 20.68sec.
"Steve Mullings did a great job," said MSU head coach Al Schmidt. "He had the right amount of wind to help him. He's a great athlete."
Mullings who was the top Junior College sprinter last year while attending Barton County Community College in Kansas, now has fastest 100 time in the NCAA this season and third fastest in MSU school history. The mark ties him with Terry Scott (Tennessee) for the Spencer Stadium record in the event.
Mullings, a junior then joined forces with Eliott Morant, LaChristopher Lewis,
and Jamel Ashley to register a regional mark of 40.46 to win the men's 4x100.
At the Arlington Invitational, Olympic 400-metre relay gold medallist Aleen Bailey won the women's 100m in time of 11.21. Like Mullings Bailey was also assisted by a
wind speed of +3.2.
Bailey faced up against former World Junior 100m silver medallist Simone Facey but the Barton star was unable to finish the race. Also competing in the race was another Barton and Jamaican athlete Brown, Keisha who finished in 11.84. Despite crossing the line in first place, Bailey's performance was not recognised because she ran unattached and race was awarded to Lakadron Ivery who took second in Bailey's heat with a time of 11.39.
Jermaine Barton competing in the men's 400m won his heat in comfortable 47.68 to place sixth overall. The winner from the seven heat event was won by American Olympic relay gold medallist Darold Williamson of Baylor University in 46.01.
