ROSEAU, Dominica: Dominicans will go to the polls to vote for the 2005 General Elections on May 5, 2005. That date was announced by Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, during a Labour Party meeting in Grandbay on Tuesday evening.
The announcement has put to rest much anticipation and assumptions about the election date.
The “Roseau Declaration” was also signed between the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) and the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP), last evening. That agreement allows for the withdrawal of two DFP contenders- Gustave Williams (Soufriere Constituency); Johnson Boston (Mahaut Constituency), and one DLP Contender -Ronald Toulon (Colihaut Constituency).
That leaves to contest DLP contenders, Ian Pinard, for Soufriere and Rayburn Blackmore for Mahaut and DFP contender, Herbert
Saboroache.
However, the DLP supporters in Colihaut are not happy. They say the party will be made to pay for its decision to withdraw the candidacy of Ronald Toulon.
Toulon was launched as the DFP candidate in March to replace MP Osborne Riviere and come up against the UWP’s Cuthbert Joseph.
But news of the accommodation, prompted DLP supporters in Colihaut Tuesday to express their opposition to that decision.
Wednesday was the second day of protest by the dissatisfied supporters, nearby the Financial Center (where the PM’s office is located), in Roseau.
The house of assembly was dissolved today, April 6. Nomination begins on April 18.
The DLP is holding a series of meetings throughout the week.
Thursday evening, the Labour train goes to northern village of
Thibuad.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition, Edison James says his party is ready for the 2005 General Elections.
