Tuesday, March 29, 2005
THE VALLEY, Anguilla: Cable and Wireless has taken on the sponsorship of another sporting activity, this time the Annual Optimist Triathlon. The sponsorship for the event amounts to some US$2,000. Speaking to the press during the official declaration of the event as the Cable and Wireless Sponsored Optimist Triathlon yesterday, Chief Executive Officer of Cable and Wireless Anguilla Mr. Sutcliffe Hodge stated that even though he was approached for a partial sponsorship he felt the company should take on the full sponsorship. Mr. Hodge added that he wishes that the sponsorship this year was more. “But that would only be more if there is evidence that they were able to get a significant number of young people involved in the activity and at the end of the day, the young people were inspired to continue in the vein of personal development and overall enrichment. So when they get to that stage, we would be more than happy to assist you further. But the challenge is we’ve got to see the numbers, we’ve got to see people getting involved. We’ve go to see the real transformation”. Cable and Wireless Chief Executive Officer Mr. Sutcliffe Hodge Mr. Hodge said that from the time the Optimist Club was started in Anguilla he has followed its activities with keen interest because he thought it had a very useful purpose with its motto: 'Friend of the Youth'.
