Nine young ladies will this year vie for the title of Miss St Vincent and Grenadines 2005 when the show comes off on May 28.

They are Richenda Arian Deane and Cassian King, two 20-year-old teachers; Shanika Shaniah Findlay and Casynella Abygail Ollivierre two 20-year-old students; 19-year-old Nelisa Rodriquez, a Junior Clerk; 23- year-old Rafika Samuel, a Sales Clerk; 20-year-old La-Keisha Williams; Danielle France, 21, a Tele-Sales Representative and 21-year-old Dorcel Nyala John, a hairdresser.

The Carnival Development Corporation (CDC), which is responsible for organising the show, says that the ladies are undergoing training in preparation for the highly-anticipated event.

It seems that the local media might have pressured the CDC into announcing the names of and releasing photographs of the ladies earlier than usual after two local newspapers published the names and photographs of some of the contestants.

The ladies were slated to be introduced to the media on Saturday April 9.

Miss St Vincent and Grenadines 2005 will be the first official show of Vincy Mas 2005.

Among other prizes, the winner walks away with a scholarship to the University of the West Indies.

Javorne Willaims is the reigning Miss St Vincent and Grenadines.
