Fleming

THE VALLEY, Anguilla: The government of Chief Minister Osborne Fleming has taken a decision to increase the speed limit from the present 30 miles per hour to 50 mph on the new Jeremiah Gumbs Highway in Anguilla.

The additional 20 mph comes as plans are being made to build a stretch of road on the western side of the Corito Dump for the establishment of a car racing track.

According to Chief Minister Osborne Fleming, young people are racing illegally on the island's roads, adding that the Government is desirous of providing a facility where they can legally race their vehicles.

Fleming admitted that he personally believes that car racing is a nice sport to be involved in, adding that it is not dangerous but is something for the young people to be engaged in order to keep them off the streets.

Fleming whose Anguilla Party was recently returned to office in General Elections some weeks ago said that his government has given instructions to the Lands and Surveys Department to prepare the land so that at least 1.5 mile of road would be available for use by speedsters.

According to the Anguilla leader, his government will be involved in preparing the track which will come under the portfolio of Ministry of Sports adding that this will help with the development of sports and stop persons from being in breach of the law.
