Floridian wants to become Haiti president
Tuesday, March 8, 2005
MIAMI, USA (UPI): A Haitian-born Miami Lakes, Fla., businessman says he wants to become Haiti's president of Haiti, The Miami Herald reported Monday. Samir Mourra, who helped organize protests against former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide in south Florida during that regime, has been campaigning in Haiti. Mourra, who has no political experience, have been traveling to rebel strongholds calling for an end of corruption and insecurity and the re-establishment of the Haitian military. He faces several hurdles. One of them bars anyone who renounced Haitian citizenship from running for office, which means he may not be able to get on the ballot for the November election. Another problem is he is a white man of African descent. He also is a former brother-in-law of former Haitian dictator Jean-Claude "Baby Doc"
Duvalier. Mourra wants to install a computerized government with a national social security number system to end corruption and improve government accountability.
