BASSETERRE, St. Kitts: There are no reports of injuries or damage as a result of a Valentine’s Day earthquake which jolted St. Kitts and Nevis and several Caribbean islands on Monday afternoon.
The 5.5 magnitude quake was also felt in Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and
Montserrat.
According to the Seismic Unit of the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago, the epicenter was about 14 miles off Dominica’s north coast and was an aftershock of a magnitude 6.3 tremor that caused extensive damage on that island in November.
St. Kitts and Nevis and several Caribbean islands have been shaken by a series of earthquakes recently.
An earthquake and heavy rainfall in Dominica late last year caused an estimated EC$51 million in damage.
