Thursday, February 3, 2005
KINGSTOWN, St Vincent: St. Vincent and the Grenadines has been helping in the relief efforts for flood ravaged Guyana, according to Minister of Foreign Affairs Louis Straker. Guyana has been affected by flooding on the coastal areas due to the continuous downpour of rains, which has caused severe disruptions to the social and economic infrastructure of that country. Minister Straker said that he made contact with that country’s’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Rudy Insanalli and offered his assistance in the way of a shipload of bottled water and flour in order to help alleviate the situation there. He also mentioned that not much demand has been made on the sister islands of CARICOM since Guyana has been receiving assistance from the South American countries, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America. Minister Straker said that should the need for more help arise in Guyana then St. Vincent and the Grenadines would be of assistance. He also mentioned that when a country has suffered the way that Guyana has suffered then our hearts and sympathy are with them. He wished them a speedy economic recovery and hoped that they would soon be returning to a state of normalcy.
