GEORGETOWN, Guyana (AFP): The World Food Programme (WFP) has sent 112 tonnes of food to Guyana to assist flood-stricken communities, the mission's team leader said Sunday. More than 25 tonnes of food arrived Saturday from Ecuador, and the rest of the 400,000-dollar package is expected to arrive in Guyana this week, team leader Piero Terranera told
AFP. The densely populated Atlantic coast was flooded for the first time in 100 years after unusually heavy rains, affecting the homes and businesses of at least 300,000 people in the South American nation.
