ROAD TOWN, BVI: British Virgin Islands
police on Monday charged a Dutch tourist in connection with the death of two
teenagers in a boat collision off Virgin Gorda.
Last Thursday a dinghy carrying four teens collided with a vessel that was
said to be recklessly navigated by 36-year-old Dutch tourist Argan
Hendrickson. The collision threw the 4 teens overboard.
Hendrickson could face the maximum penalty
of life imprisonment for manslaughter and remains in custody pending a court
appearance, according to BVI police. An
autopsy revealed that both Dennis Harty, 19, of the United States and Luke
Noble, 14, of the United Kingdom succumbed to death by drowning; while their
companions Stephen Noble, 18, and Ian Murray, 19, of the United States,
managed to climb back into the dinghy and survived to tell the story.
Noble is the nephew of Chief Inspector Tony
Noble, who is on assignment with the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force.
According to a police statement, the boys
were knocked unconscious by the impact of the crash and immediately sank into
the sea. The Virgin Islands Search and Rescue
deployed its entire rescue resources to the scene. Those resources included a
rescue boat, a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter and a Royal Virgin Islands Police
Force plane, which were all coordinated for the search of the missing teens.
Investigations are continuing.
