New Suriname airline announces flights to Belgium
Thursday, July 8, 2004
PARAMARIBO, Suriname (AFP): Suriname
International Victory Airline (SIVA-world), a new airline company, will soon
offer twice-weekly flights between Suriname and Belgium, pending final
regulatory approvals, SIVA-world managing director Siemboedat Ramautar said.
Ramautar said his company is just awaiting its foreign operator certificate (FOC)
from the Suriname Civil Aviation and Safety Authority (CASAS) before it starts
discounted flights to Europe. The company
received a license to fly the route last May by presidential resolution.
SIVA-world will fly an Airbus 310-300, a chartered plane from the Spanish
company Air Plus Comet, and compete with Suriname Airways and KLM.
Suriname, a former Dutch colony on the northeastern coast of South America,
has a population of 490,000 people.
