More allegations of corruption in Grenada

Monday, June 28, 2004

ST GEORGE‘S, Grenada: Just weeks after serious questions have been raised concerning the acceptance by Grenada’s Prime Minister of a sum of cash from a German fraudster, other allegations have surfaced.

A well-placed source has reported that all is not well with the defunct economic citizenship program and says the time is right for the Grenadian government to give the names of all those who bought passports and the records to back up whatever claims are made.

The source further alleged that several passports were issued after it was officially announced by the government that it was ending the program.

According to this source, there are persons who hold Grenadian passports but whose names are not officially recorded, and that some of the records which are supposed to be at the Immigration Department are missing.

Head of Immigration Jessmon Prince was not at his desk when a call was made to comment on the allegation.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell indicated recently that it is not in the interest of national security and the country to release the names of persons who received passports under the economic citizenship program.
