NEW YORK, USA: Five of the top ten honeymoon
destinations in the world are in the Caribbean and the region boasts of having
nearly 40 percent of the World’s 50 Best Honeymoon Destinations, according to
Modern Bride magazine, which describes itself as “the last word on weddings.”
The magazine polled 3,000 travel agents on
“the world’s 50 most seductive destinations” for its Eighth Annual Honeymoon
Survey. The results indicate that the Caribbean is popular among honeymooners,
with 18 states listed in the world’s top 50 honeymoon destinations.
Five Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO)
member countries - Jamaica (3rd), Bermuda (5th), St. Lucia (6th), Aruba (9th)
and the U.S. Virgin Islands (10th) - placed in the top ten.
“With countless secluded beaches, an endless
supply of romantic sunsets and the warmth and charm of the Caribbean people,
couples are rediscovering true love in the number one warm-weather destination
in the world,” said Hugh Riley, CTO’s director of marketing for the Americas.
“Aside from sun, sand and surf, newlyweds
look to the Caribbean for its exotic nature, romantic atmosphere and rich
culture, together with the practical value of choosing a region of diverse
locales at affordable prices,” Riley added.
