New Caribbean operator to use Nortel GSM equipment

GEORGETOWN, Guyana: Trans-World Telecom
Caribbean Ltd. has started installing GSM equipment from Nortel Networks Ltd.
in Guyana. TWTC, a new telecom carrier in the Caribbean, will offer wireless
service through its Cel*Star Guyana subsidiary.
The Nortel infrastructure, which will be
GPRS and EDGE ready, will include radio access and core equipment.
Cel*Star will compete with Guyana Telephone
and Telegraph Co., which operates an AMPS network also supplied by Nortel and
has more than 105,000 customers in the country.
