ST GEORGE‘S, Grenada: The three main
political parties in Grenada are among a number of organizations that have
signed a resolution condemning the tightening of the United States economic
blockade against Cuba.
The ruling New National Party as well as the National Democratic Congress
which is the main opposition and the People's Labour Movement of Dr. Francis
Alexis have all signed the document along with the Trades Union Council,
Grenada- Cuba friendship society, Amigos de Cuba (Friends of Cuba) and several
others. The resolution states "taking into
account Cuba is a sovereign State that gained its independence through sweat,
blood and enormous sacrifice of its people, and that Cuba is entitled to
self-determination without interference in its internal affairs; and
recognizing that the tightening of the already inhumane and immoral blockade
imposed by U.S. Administrations for more than forty five (45) years would only
cause more hardship to the over 12 million people who have selflessly provided
unconditional assistance to the third world countries including Grenada to
attain a better life; BE IT RESOLVED that we
strongly condemn those acts perpetuated by any country or individual that
makes available millions of dollars to destabilize Cuba, which is a violation
of international law. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED
that we express our unwavering support for the people of Cuba and condemn all
acts of aggression and economic measures as outlined last May 6, 2004 by the
United States Government of President George W. Bush".
The Cuban embassy in Grenada and other activists have being mobilising support
throughout the Caribbean against the recent measures announced by the American
government.
