ST GEORGE‘S, Grenada: The parliamentary
opposition in Grenada held a candle light vigil outside parliament building on
Tuesday as part of a series of protest actions to protest against government's
refusal to hold parliamentary meetings. Two
parliamentary sittings that were due to be held according to the laws of
Grenada never materialised. According to opposition leader Tillman Thomas no
explanation has been given. Hundreds of
supporters of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) armed
with lighted candles sand religious hymns and prayed for divine intervention
so that the people’s business in parliament can be looked after.
Opposition parliamentarian Nazim Burke who is also the Public Relations
Officer of the NDC believes that the government is purposely not interested in
parliamentary sittings since questions surrounding the talked about allegation
of the Prime Minister receiving $500,000 in a briefcase from a fraudster will
be asked. Meanwhile a series of further
protest actions are planned.
