ST GEORGE'S, Grenada: The Grenada Government
has reiterated its solidarity with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) position
on the Republic of Cuba, as enshrined in the Havana Declaration of 2002, which
among other things, spoke of the establishment of relations between four
Caribbean countries and hailed this as “encouraging the reinsertion of the
Republic of Cuba into hemispheric diplomatic relations and constituted an
affirmation that Cuba is an integral part of the Caribbean family”.
A statement from the Prime Minister's office says Grenada encourages efforts
to foster closer relations among all Hemispheric States, as this forms the
foundation of CARICOM’s philosophy towards the World and is fundamental to its
relations with Cuba. The statement adds that
Grenada and other countries of the developing world are faced with challenges
presented by global trends that stretch the resources and the resilience of
the people but the Cuban people have demonstrated their ability to survive
challenges. Grenada and its people have
benefited from twenty-five years of diplomatic relations with the Republic of
Cuba, which are forged on the basis of mutual cooperation in agriculture,
education, health and sports.
